THE PROBLEM
This customer uses various cables for the critical testing of finished products. A system was needed ensure that the cable – at the point of carrying out the test – was ‘good’ (testing the finished product with a ‘faulty-but-presumed-good’ lead could result in critical field failures.) The system also needed to schedule planned maintenance for each lead to ensure it remained verified as ‘good’.
OUR SOLUTION
Consideration was given to the expected life of each cable and a method of tracking its frequency of use and repair history was developed. This involved incorporating a system of diodes into each lead that assigned them unique codes. This allowed for every lead to be recorded, enabling us to develop a database to store and manipulate the information.
The tracking system gives them the peace of mind that their test leads are now fully covered by a planned maintenance routine and that on the spot repairs have been significantly reduced. The system has also given the client the option to formally sub-contract the management and repair of their entire test lead requirements to us.
